He couldn't see me, but I could definitely see him! He had been doing this for long enough for me to think "Sheesh, I wish I had my camera," and then "Oh I actually have it with me," and then decide to actually get it out, and take the video... so he was pretty much just asking for it.

Angels and Airwaves: LOVE

This is Angels and Airwave's new album, Love. It came out in February, and it is free from the band's official site. Here's a link:

I approve. It works well as an album, meaning no one song really sticks out as more/less exceptional, and it's pretty exceptional. This album could easily be the soundtrack to a sci-fi movie, so that's intriguing. I'm not giving up the Killers presently, but variety is postmodern (meaning, I like variety in my musical acquisitions).

Heir of Sea and Fire and Harpist in the Wind

First off, let me say how ridiculous these covers are. I couldn't find one, SINGLE, normal looking cover for these books. They're sooooo..... ugly.

I finished this trilogy, it began with "the Riddle Master of Hed," which I already wrote about. The story is good, but I have decided that I really want to re-write the whole thing. I think this was her first novel or something, and there are lots of things that I would change.

It could be re-released.... with a decent cover. And as one book. This really could be just one book.

What I found really surprising, was that the last book of the trilogy was nominated for a Hugo Award for best novel. Was 1980 just.... a really bad year?

The last book is a lot better than the first, as far as the writing goes. All together, however, this thing needs re-vamping.

Bugs

Small things intrigue me.

Some bugs just deserve to have their picture taken.
I killed this fly shortly after this picture was taken. He was one annoying bug. I actually took this after I'd clapped him and stomped him, and yet he lived.

The Riddle-Master of Hed

I recently read this book, "The Riddle-Master of Hed," the first novel in a fantasy trilogy published in 1976, written by Patricia McKillip.

I read this book a loooooong, long time ago. I read it in elementary school, because I found it on the bookshelves of the elementary library. That's the most I remember about it, actually. I hadn't even remembered the name, or the author. I was perusing the juvenile fiction in the BYU library when I found it.... again.

I was so excited to read this! I remembered liking it a lot, and asking the librarian to get the next book, but for some reason it never happened. I don't think we even found what the next one was called. So imagine my joy when I saw all three books sitting on that shelf.

Come to find, this book has some issues.

I think it might be an editing issue, to be honest. I don't think the story was very well thought-through, before printing. Sometimes the author just rambles on about a landscape, and then when there's dialogue, sometimes it's not clear what's happening.

However, it is very interesting. The author can create effects: like, near the end, when the Hero(Morgan) discovers a deep, creepy secret about his realm, it is gooooood. However, I also feel that she spends too much time creating a world, and not enough pulling the plot forward or making characters round.

I just wish this author had a better editor. Oh well.

Conclusion: Interesting read, but probably not going to bring it into any classrooms someday. I am reading the other two books just in case this changes. I don't think it will. I'll let you know.
